Peggy, my librarian's, Best Biscuits, ever

For those of you who aren't teachers - we make have mean pot-lucks!  Especially the breakfasts.  Many of my favorite recipes I have gotten that way.  I loved the mornings she brought these!
2 cups flour

1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. soda
2 t. baking powder
6 T. Crisco (butter flavor)
1 c. buttermilk
A little margarine to melt in the pan (optional)

Preheat 400 deg.

Using a spoon or pastry cutter, mix flour, salt, soda and baking powder.  Add Crisco.  Add buttermilk and mix with spoon, just until moistened.  Fold 4-6 times on a floured surface. Biscuits will be tough if handled too much.
Roll them thin or thicker - however you like them best. Cut with biscuit cutter.  Melt margarine in a glass pan.  Turn each biscuit once to coat. (optional - that's my addition. )

Bake 20 mins at 400.
